Learning the popularity of cricket in a different part of the world

Cricket is a bat and ball game played between two teams of eleven players each. It is the world’s most popular sport. Cricket started as an indoor game with rules governed by law 12 of the 18th century, but it has become one of the fastest-growing sports worldwide.

It is played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of a rectangular 22-yard long pitch. The bowler delivers the ball from his end of the pitch to the batsman. The batsman aims to hit the ball as hard as possible to score maximum runs. The team scoring more runs and defending it successfully wins the cricket match.

The objective of the cricket

The objective of each team is to score more runs than its opponent by batting, bowling and fielding. A run is scored by the striker when he returns the ball to the wicket, having made contact with it. A run is also scored if an additional run is made by the batsman running from one end of the pitch to the other before that cricket ball has been returned to his end of the pitch.

Each completed run increments both teams’ scores. The batsman on strike may run as many times as possible in between deliveries but may not exit his end of the pitch until his innings end. In some forms of cricket, there is no limit to the number of runs a team can score at any one time. In others, a limit is set. Cricket typically takes two to three hours to complete a match during which the teams switch from batting to fielding and back again, with a similar time interval between innings.
